Building the best Guest Room
Now that you have a home with some extra space it’s time to show it off. A guest room is the best option for having guests over and keeping them comfortable during their stay. Here are some simple tips for making your guest room feel like a plush hotel rather than an old storage closet.
Get a comfortable bed that people will enjoy sleeping in. You don’t want to just stick a futon in an office and call it a guest room. If you have limited space then day beds are a great option but I suggest full platform beds over most other options. Because of the lack of a headboard and footboard, platform beds are usually cheaper and more space efficient than full beds. Additionally, most platform beds that are worth their price will come with extra storage underneath them in the form of drawers that you can give to your guests as their own storage. Or you can use this space for keeping extra pillows and bedding within reach.
Make sure that you aren’t inviting people into an unfinished project. If you are only friends with handymen then they might not mind the unfinished walls and the missing molding, but most people will look at an unfinished room with a little disgust. You don’t want to have beautiful day beds surrounded by cracking plaster or partially painted walls.
Make sure that there are lots of outlets available near those day beds. People need to stay connected in the present day and electricity is the power that keeps us running. It is less than pleasing when you have to hunt around a room only to find the nearest outlet is way across the room behind a heavy cabinet that will scratch the floor if moved.
